Ben Hostelley Memorial Scholarship
Background:
The scholarship program, originally endowed by the late Nor-Gwyn President and founder, is presented each year to a current or former Nor-Gwyn baseball or softball player who has displayed exemplary sportsmanship and an outstanding commitment to community service. The original endowment was for 25 years. Recently, the scholarship program was renewed with a generous donation by Steve and Anna Cameron.
The scholarship is administered by a 4-member panel of trustees that is independent of the Nor-Gwyn organization.

About Ben Hostelley:
Gerald (Ben) Hostelley was one of five founders of the former Upper Gwynedd-North Wales Baseball Association in the early 1970s, which later became Nor-Gwyn Baseball and Softball. Ben was Nor-Gwyn’s first President and served in this capacity until his death in 1997. In the words of one former player, “Ben was a teacher, a mentor, and most of all, a friend. He had a knack for spotting players that needed a little extra attention, such as a player from a fatherless home, or one who has a sick parent or a parent that could not spend much time with their child. He was intensely interested in following the lives and careers of his players. It is perfectly fitting that he would establish a scholarship for players.”

About Steve and Anna Cameron:
We are fortunate that two special people, who have been part of the Nor-Gwyn family for many years, have made a generous donation that will allow the scholarship to continue. Steve and Anna Cameron both served this organization proudly in a variety of capacities, well beyond the playing years of their two sons. Steve served as a coach, board member, secretary, and treasurer. He chaired and served on many committees and was inducted into the Nor-Gwyn Hall of Fame. Anna was a constant presence in the refreshment stands and assisted with various fundraising projects.
Steve and Anna hope their gift will inspire others to donate so the scholarship can live on for future generations. For information on how to donate, please send an e-mail with your contact information to [email protected].
