   PROGRAM OVERVIEW

ROOKIE LEAGUE
A league, designed primarily for 7 and 8 year olds.  Games are typically "coach-pitch", though pitching may be introduce to the players later in the season. All rostered players present for the game bat in order, whether playing defensively or not.  Stealing of bases is not permitted.  Trophies are awarded to all participants.  A “Moving Up” Tournament for all players is held at season-end. The Rookie League is an excellent way to continue teaching the fundamentals of the game and building player confidence.

MINOR LEAGUE:  Recommended for 9 and 10 year olds and inexperienced 11 & 12 year olds.  Among teammates of their own age and experience level, players continue building and refining their fundamental skills while they begin to understand game strategy.  It is at the Minor League level that players first experience pitching, base stealing and post-season tournament competition. Special base running rules are in effect and batting helmets with face guards are available. The regular season is an instructional format with no standings kept.  The Playoffs consist of a double-elimination tournament.  Trophies are awarded to players on Championship and Runner-Up Teams. The game is played on a 60-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 46 feet.  To encourage the league to train more pitchers, there are rules that set the maximum number of innings a pitcher may pitch in a calendar week.  Regulation games consist of six innings or four and one-half innings if a game is called.  Team rosters are determined by Blind Draft managed by the Minor League Representative& the Little League Age Baseball Commissioner.  Each draft round is comprised of players of similar skill strength in an attempt to balance talent across the league.  Regular season games are parent-umpired.  Playoff Tournament games are umpired by Nor-Gwyn Umpire Association representatives.

MAJOR LEAGUE 50/70
: The most experienced level of Nor-Gwyn Little League, recommended primarily for 11 and 12 year old players and a few experienced 10 year olds.  Majors Baseball is played under the Official Little League Baseball Rules, but implements some special rules as necessary for the development and welfare of this age group.  The game is played on a 70-foot diamond with a pitching distance of 50 feet.  To encourage the league to train more pitchers, there are rules that set the maximum number of innings a pitcher may pitch in a calendar week.  Regulation games consist of six innings or four and one-half innings if a game is called.  The regular season is an instructional format with no standings kept.  The Playoffs consist of a round-robin tournament to determine the seeding for a double-elimination championship tournament.  Trophies are awarded to players on Championship and Runner-Up Teams.  Team rosters are determined by a Player Draft to fill open roster spots resulting from prior-season 12 year-old players advancing to Bux-Mont Connie Mack Baseball. The Major League Draft Process is managed by the Little League Age Baseball Commissioner.  Player participation in the Draft is determined from a player skills evaluation. A player drafted to a Major League Team will remain on that team roster until he/she leaves the Little League Age Program (at Age 13).  No trading of players or moving of players from one team to another is permitted.
