Every
year the Nor-Gwyn Hawks 12u Tournament Team raises funds to play in a
special, week-long, baseball experience at Cooperstown Dreams Park in
Cooperstown, NY. The team holds various
fundraisers throughout the previous year and off-season to make this
fantastic opportunity happen. Due to this year's unprecedented
pandemic, Cooperstown Dreams Park canceled all tournaments, including
the one our Hawks were scheduled to attend in August. With
all of their fundraising efforts completed and no Dreams Park to attend,
the 2020 12u families, led by Manager Ryan Agriss, have chosen to put
their remaining funds into a brand new 40’ x 70’ Batting Cage Pole Barn.
This donation, combined with another Nor-Gwyn
family member's private donation, has gotten us 80% of the way to make
this project possible.
The
new, open-sided, roofed pole barn will be located in the same footprint
as our current batting cages between Hostelley Field and Ronald Moyer
Field, (F1). The pole barn will have
four hitting tunnels, a soft toss/tee work tunnel, and an enclosed
pitching training area. The Hawks Nest is scheduled to be completed by
Opening Day 2021.
While
the 2020 12U Team couldn’t fulfill their own Dreams Park dream this
year, they will leave a legacy for many years to come and give current
and future Hawks something to help
make their dreams happen. At a very young age, they are learning a great
and valuable lesson in giving back so others can benefit. So in 2021,
if you see any one of these Hawks, please thank them and let them know
how much you appreciate their generosity!
On
behalf of Nor-Gwyn Baseball and it's families, we would like to express
our thanks to the 2020 12u Hawks for this particular project.
